PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lyoto Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Unterweger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Lyoto Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Unterweger!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Unterweger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maia swivels and escapes.
Maia tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Maia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Unterweger.
Unterweger dives in and grabs Maia's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maia pushes down on Unterweger's head and hops out.
Lyoto Maia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Unterweger.
Unterweger circles away from the clinch attempt.
Maia slaps away a takedown attempt from Unterweger, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Unterweger shoots in looking for a takedown. Maia tries to sprawl out of it but Unterweger keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maia manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Unterweger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Unterweger is working for a submission of some sort.

Maia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Unterweger's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Unterweger's back!
Unterweger tries to break free.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maia is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Maia gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Maia gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Maia apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Maia throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Unterweger's head.
Unterweger tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maia swivels and escapes.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Maia.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Maia forces Unterweger back against the cage and clinches.
Maia connects with a knee to the head.

Maia turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Maia manages to end up in side control.

Maia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Unterweger is trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia trying to control the action but Unterweger is working from the bottom.

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Maia cracks Unterweger with an elbow. That is naaassty.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maia is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Unterweger looks calm but he's in trouble here. Maia gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Unterweger is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Maia lets go of the hold and Unterweger can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Lyoto Maia!
