PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andre Schembri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rye King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Andre Schembri has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Andre Schembri seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andre Schembri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rye King!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Schembri lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Schembri throws a low kick, looking for King's leg but King calmly moves out of range.
Schembri throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.
Schembri tries a head kick but it misses.
Schembri tried to score with a low kick but King checks it.
Schembri with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
King with the ground and pound but Schembri uses the opportunity to regain guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schembri manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now King has Schembri in his guard.

King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Schembri postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.
Schembri throws and elbow that misses. King uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Schembri's guard. Nice move by King!
Schembri looking to hit a scissor sweep but King is one step ahead there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schembri swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
King moves out of range of the body kick.
Schembri scores with a kick to the body.
Schembri throws a wild body kick that King sees coming a mile off.
Andre Schembri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Schembri lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and King has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from King and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

King changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schembri looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

King working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
King misses with the ground and pound.
Schembri is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked King off and has taken his back!

Schembri is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften King up.
King covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
King trying to control the position but Schembri manages to sink in the hooks.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Schembri connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for King to escape the position.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as King checks a leg kick.
King closes the distance and clinches up with Schembri, looking for a takedown. King pushes Schembri against the ropes but Schembri circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schembri throws a head kick that misses.
Schembri tries to work over King's front leg with a kick but King checks it.
Schembri throws a right and a left that both miss.
Schembri misses with a low kick as King jumps back.
Schembri turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
King moves out of range of the body kick.
King blocks a head kick by Schembri.
A slapping body kick lands there for Schembri.

King scores a takedown into full mount!
Schembri can't escape the position.

King moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Schembri has worked his arm free - good work by Schembri!

That's one minute gone in the round.
King advances nicely into full mount.
King is breathing heavily.

King looking to isolate an arm here. Schembri doesn't see it coming and as King extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by King!
