PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hiro Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis has chosen The Streets-Let's Push Things Foward as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Hiro Sakurai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Antonio Davis!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Donald Grub and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Sakurai.
Nice sprawl there from Sakurai as Davis shoots in.
Sakurai scores with a nice strike.
Davis moves out of range as Sakurai strikes.
Sakurai cracks Davis with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sakurai scores with a body shot.
Davis steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sakurai.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Davis.
Sakurai pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sakurai jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Davis fails with a takedown attempt.
Hiro Sakurai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Davis.
Sakurai cracks Davis with a good jab.

Sakurai moves into range and connects with a jab.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sakurai fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Davis manages to avoid it.
Sakurai uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Davis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Sakurai finds it's way round the side to connect with Davis's head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Davis ducks under a wild hook from Sakurai.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Davis tries for a takedown but Sakurai sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Sakurai digs a good body shot into Davis's ribs.
Sakurai loads up on a big right hand but Davis slips the punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sakurai but Sakurai pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Sakurai dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Davis takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Sakurai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sakurai lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Davis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sakurai to score with a decent uppercut.
Sakurai throws a big shot that misses.
Hiro Sakurai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sakurai throws a lazy right hand but Davis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Nice uppercut there from Sakurai.
Davis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sakurai as he avoids it easily.
Hiro Sakurai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Davis.
Sakurai scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Davis on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Sakurai throws a lazy right hand but Davis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sakurai lands a glancing blow to the side of Davis's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiro Sakurai dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Davis takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Sakurai slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Sakurai fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Davis is out of range.
Sakurai is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davis on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Sakurai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sakurai circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sakurai keeps the fight on the outside.
Davis gets cracked there but stands up to it.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Davis is defended easily by Sakurai.

Antonio Davis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sakurai cracks Davis with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hiro Sakurai showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Sakurai has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
