PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mo Kendo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Mann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mo Kendo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Mann!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kendo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mann parries the strikes from Kendo easily there. Kendo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mann to escape.

Kendo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kendo advances to full mount.
Kendo thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Kendo sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Kendo has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mann's face.

Kendo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mann has worked his arm free - good work by Mann!

Kendo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mann has escaped the position, nice work there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kendo decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kendo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kendo postures up in Mann's guard and throws a big left but Mann blocks it.

Mann is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Kendo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kendo lands in his opponent's guard.

Kendo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mann looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mann looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mann!

Johnny Mann showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kendo throws a sloppy head kick
and Mann makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kendo really felt that one!
Kendo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mann circles away.
Kendo closes the distance and clinches up with Mann, looking for a takedown. Kendo pushes Mann against the ropes but Mann circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kendo shoots in for a double leg but Mann sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mo Kendo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Kendo or perhaps it was just good defense by Mann which made him look bad.
Mann throws a front kick that sends Kendo stumbling back into the ropes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mann will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mann looks to land a body kick but Kendo moved away.

Kendo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mann looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kendo tries to move to mount but Mann blocks the move with his legs.

Kendo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mann knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Mann's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kendo swings around for an armbar but Mann sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kendo's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kendo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mann is aware though and is defending well.

Kendo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mann gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mann must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

so Kendo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kendo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mann wants to stand and escape but Kendo is having none of it.
Mann wants to sweep here but Kendo controlling him for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

and Mann counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kendo is lucky that one didn't land flush.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Mann stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mann wants it to stay on the feet.

Kendo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mann is fending him off so far but Kendo persists. Nope, Mann circles away and we're back to standing.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kendo is defended easily by Mann.
Mann with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Mo Kendo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mann plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!


It looks like Mo Kendo has been cut.
Kendo shoots in looking for a takedown. Mann tries to sprawl out of it but Kendo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Mann manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
Kendo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Johnny Mann is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kendo drops his hands momentarily and Mann takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Mo Kendo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mann lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnny Mann comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mann has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
