PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Monkey D Luffi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Matt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Luffi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to One pece. Monkey D Luffi is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Monkey D Luffi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ted Matt!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Luffi.

Matt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Luffi tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matt smiles and moves away.
Matt is looking to slow Luffi down with leg kicks.
Luffi clinches but Matt breaks the clinch

and Matt counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Luffi's guard now.
Matt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Luffi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Matt postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Matt stands and steps away. Luffi gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Matt gets the takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Luffi is trying to get back to half guard.

Matt decides to stand up, so the ref orders Luffi to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Luffi with a poor takedown

and Matt counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Matt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Matt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Matt takes a little break here. Luffi wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Matt decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Luffi is breathing heavily.

Matt shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Matt performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Matt prevents Luffi from improving his position.

Matt escapes and gets back to his feet.
Matt fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Luffi manages to avoid it.

Matt decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Matt postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Luffi to stand up.

Matt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Matt lands in his opponent's guard.
Matt is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Matt pushes down on Luffi's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Matt is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Luffi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Matt dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Matt scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Matt thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ted Matt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Matt tries to advance to mount but Luffi denies him.

Matt has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Matt on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Luffi. Luffi obviously looking to wear him down.

Luffi pushes Matt up against the cage in a clinch.
Luffi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Matt has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Luffi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Matt letting Luffi take a breather here.
Matt tries to pull guard but Luffi holds him up against the cage and eventually Matt drops back down to his feet.
Luffi is trying to break free.
Luffi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Luffi wants a takedown but no success here.

Matt breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Matt tries to clinch but Luffi moves out of range.
Matt avoids the head kick by Luffi.

Matt closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Matt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Luffi throws a lazy head kick

and Matt counters with a shoot takedown. Luffi fights it but they end up in guard.
Matt sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Matt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Luffi looking to control.

Luffi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Matt passes into half guard.

Matt stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Luffi looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Luffi misses with a takedown attempt

and Matt counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monkey D Luffi. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Matt is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Luffi has managed to free his arm - good work.
Matt content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Luffi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Luffi.
Matt passes Luffi's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matt slows the pace down in half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Matt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Matt takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Matt moves into range and clinches up with Luffi.

Matt gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Matt content to stall in guard here.
Luffi is trying to keep Matt in close.
Matt postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Matt looking to pass the guard.
Matt pushes down on Luffi's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Luffi is trying to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matt is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Matt gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matt clinches but Luffi breaks the clinch

and Luffi counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Matt's guard now.
Luffi won't allow Matt to sweep him here.
Matt controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Matt is on top in guard.
Luffi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Matt controls the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Luffi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Luffi working for submissions but it's allowed Matt to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Matt performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Matt wants to get back to his feet.
Monkey D Luffi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ted Matt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Luffi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matt is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ted Matt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Matt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
