PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Han (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riku Ogawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eddie Han!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Riku Ogawa!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ogawa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ogawa feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ogawa wants to control from the top but Han keeps moving.

Ogawa is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Han!
Ogawa wants to take Han's back but he can't do it this time.
Ogawa wants to control the pace but Han is squirming around nicely.
Han tries to reverse the position but Ogawa maintains control.

Ogawa wants to finish this one by submission but Han is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ogawa.

Ogawa has hold of Han's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Han manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Ogawa is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Han can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Ogawa looking to control but Han is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Ogawa has hold of Han's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Han manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ogawa cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Ogawa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Han is looking to escape.

Ogawa is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Han is in real trouble.

Ogawa is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Han is defending well though. Ogawa let's go of the attempt for now.

Ogawa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Han looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ogawa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Han's guard.

Ogawa drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ogawa jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Ogawa walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Han is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ogawa pulls his head out easily.

Ogawa takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ogawa is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Han has managed to escape the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Han tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Ogawa is trying to maintain the position but Han is very close to passing his half guard.

Ogawa is defending against the submission attempts here by Han.
Ogawa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Han's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Han's back!

Han is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Ogawa gets his way!
Riku Ogawa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ogawa has the hooks in. Han is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
