PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between JT Spirit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Wallaby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spirit comes into the arena with Kotiteollisuus - Pohjanmaan Kautta blaring out of the sound system. Wallaby has chosen Europe - The Final Countdown as his entrance music. Doug Wallaby has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with JT Spirit's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, JT Spirit!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Doug Wallaby!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spirit has Wallaby up against the cage in a clinch.
Wallaby has had enough of the clinch but Spirit keeps him there for the moment.
Wallaby tries to break free but Spirit pushes him back against the cage.
Spirit lands a hook that snaps the head of Wallaby backwards.
Spirit gets through Wallaby's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Wallaby wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Wallaby gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Spirit.
Wallaby has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Wallaby's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Spirit has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Wallaby slaps away a takedown attempt from Spirit, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Spirit misses with a wild body shot.
A punch combination from Wallaby misses.
Left hook, right uppercut from Wallaby.


It looks like JT Spirit has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wallaby throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Spirit.
Spirit throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Wallaby lands with a hook. Spirit tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Wallaby swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wallaby lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Spirit showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Wallaby.
No joy there for Wallaby, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Spirit throws the kick towards the body but Wallaby avoids it.
Doug Wallaby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wallaby chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Spirit can pounce on him.
Wallaby rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spirit moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Wallaby on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Spirit. Spirit obviously looking to wear him down.
Spirit scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Wallaby looks gassed!
Spirit fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wallaby manages to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spirit uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Spirit, right into the meat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Spirit scores with a jab to the head.
Spirit scores with a nice body kick.
Spirit lands a front kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Spirit. Wallaby shrugs it off though.
Spirit lands with a cross.
Spirit fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JT Spirit. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wallaby throws a nice looking combination but Spirit bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Spirit tries to close the distance and clinch but Wallaby swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wallaby misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wallaby is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Spirit wants to clinch up but Wallaby keeps it at a distance.
Spirit lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Wallaby at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Spirit changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wallaby looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Spirit moves into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wallaby takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Spirit with a couple of short strikes.
Spirit connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Spirit punishing his opponent with strikes.
Spirit is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Wallaby can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Spirit working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Spirit postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Wallaby looks a forlorn figure.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Spirit is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Wallaby is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Wallaby flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Spirit anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Wallaby and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Spirit slips an arm under Wallaby chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Spirit has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Spirit is squeezing on Wallaby like an anaconda would it's prey. Wallaby fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). JT Spirit!
JT Spirit retains his bantamweight title!
