PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Holliday (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drago is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Jimmy Holliday acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holliday shoots in looking for a takedown. Drago tries to sprawl out of it but Holliday keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Drago manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Drago is breathing heavily.
Drago throws a lazy right hand but Holliday sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Drago scores with a nice right hand.

Drago gets caught flat footed, as Holliday shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Drago is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Holliday is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Holliday stands and throws Drago's legs to the side, diving into side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Drago suckers Holliday into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Drago is now in Holliday's guard!

Holliday pulls Drago in close to his closed guard and prevents Drago from doing any damage or advancing position.
Drago postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Drago gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Drago wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Drago will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ivan Drago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holliday shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Holliday takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Drago shoots for a double leg takedown but Holliday sprawls well. He's pushed Drago's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Drago looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Holliday is fending him off so far but Drago persists. Nope, Holliday circles away and we're back to standing.
Holliday fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Drago shoots in for a takedown but Holliday shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Holliday shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Drago sprawls well. Drago wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Holliday gets slowly back to his feet.

Holliday is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Drago's half guard.

Holliday shoots for a takedown but Drago saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Holliday changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Drago tries to avoid it but Holliday manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Drago to the ground. Drago escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Drago scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Holliday throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Drago was covering up waiting for the punch and Holliday finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drago bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Holliday's guard.
Drago stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Holliday swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Holliday is looking for a triangle but Drago pushes his legs off easily.
Drago throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Holliday works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Drago's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Holliday looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Drago lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Drago scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Holliday doesn't seem bothered though.

Holliday shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Drago manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Holliday stands and throws Drago's legs to the side, diving into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jimmy Holliday comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Holliday has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
