PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frasier Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Myles Hate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane comes to the cage accompanied by Frasier theme tune. Myles Hate is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Frasier Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Myles Hate!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crane throws out a loose jab but Hate uses good head movement to avoid it.
Crane fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hate manages to avoid it.
Frasier Crane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hate slaps away a takedown attempt from Crane, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Crane lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Crane shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hate as he jumps to the side.
Crane shoots in for a takedown but Hate shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frasier Crane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Crane gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hate is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Crane gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hate can't get the takedown.
Hate is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hate is working for takedown but Crane is calmly controlling the position for now.
Crane is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Crane drags the fight down to the ground.
Crane working a defensive guard here.
Crane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Crane has control of Hate's left arm, preventing Hate from doing any damage.
Hate looking to pass the guard.

Hate drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Crane dives on top into guard.
Crane postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hate tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Crane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Crane looking to sit in guard and control but Hate gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Crane working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hate doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hate manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hate pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Crane is keeping the position for now.
Hate is pushing down on Crane's leg trying to pass to half guard. Crane is fighting to maintain full guard but Hate has managed to sneak the leg through.
Hate content to control rather than advance.

Crane is breathing heavily.
Crane is looking for a sweep. Hate is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Crane blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hate.
Crane is staying active underneath Hate, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hate is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Crane sees it coming and defends easily.

Crane looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hate thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hate feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Crane tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hate wants to pass the guard but Crane is keeping the position.
Hate content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Hate trying to control but Crane is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hate connects with a couple of short punches.
Hate with a flurry of punches that miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Myles Hate will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hate looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hate throws and elbow that misses. Crane uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hate's guard. Nice move by Crane!
Crane controlling from the top position.

Hate working for a triangle but Crane defends it easily.
Crane takes a decent strike to the side of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Crane drops back looking for a leg! Hate is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hate manages to kick Crane off! Crane jumps back into Hate's guard.

Hate working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crane doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crane manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hate looking to hit a scissor sweep but Crane is one step ahead there.
Crane throwing strikes from guard but Hate blocks nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Crane landing some decent shots from guard.
Crane working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hate's head.
Crane loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Crane throws a strike but Hate rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Crane can't keep his opponent in guard - Hate advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hate wants to take a breather but Crane is having none of it.

Hate is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Crane has managed to free his arm - good work.
Crane is trying to stand back up but Hate is controlling him
Hate passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Crane!
Hate working Crane over with strikes here.

Hate working for a guillotine from mount but Crane is in no mood to give up.
Crane tries to hold on but Hate pushes him away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Crane prevents Hate from taking his back.
Hate trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Hate wants to finish this one by submission but Crane is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hate.
The referee warns Crane that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Hate is looking to work his way around to Crane's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Myles Hate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Crane's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Hate shoots and misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Crane drives through and clinches with Hate against the cage.
Crane lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hate backwards.
Crane goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hate prevents it.

Crane pulls guard effortlessly.
Hate's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Hate thows a big elbow that misses.
Crane managing to control the position.
Hate stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crane swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hate throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Crane works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crane keeping moving, preventing Hate from controlling successfully.

Crane is looking for a triangle but Hate pushes his legs off easily.
Hate trying to control but Crane is working from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hate closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Hate is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Crane knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hate wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Crane, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crane trying to remain calm as Hate controls from the top position.

Hate is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Crane has escaped the position, nice work there.
Crane manages to get back to half guard.
Crane moves into full guard.
Hate looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Crane controlling Hate's posture.
Hate throws a big right hand that misses.
Hate slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Myles Hate is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hate wants to control from the top but Crane keeps moving.
Hate passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Crane can't do much from the bottom here.
Hate controls the position.
Crane is looking to reverse the position.
Hate just content to control the position.
Frasier Crane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Despite being in the dominant position, Myles Hate just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Crane gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hate to score an easy takedown into full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Myles Hate comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hate winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
