Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kimbo Slice!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mir throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Slice was covering up waiting for the punch and Mir finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Mir throws a big right hand that misses.

Mir stands up and waves to Slice to follow him.
Slice tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Slice doesn't manage to clinch there - Mir circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Slice looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Slice moves in looking to clinch but Mir pushes him off.
Slice slaps away a takedown attempt from Mir, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Slice tries to clinch but Mir moves out of range.

Slice tries to close the distance and clinch but Mir swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Slice defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mir.

Slice gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mir distracts Slice with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Slice wants to stand but Mir is controlling the position.

Slice is working an open guard so Mir takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Mir keeps the fight on the outside.
The fight stays on the outside here - Slice looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Slice tries to clinch but Mir moves out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mir is trying to force a seperation but Slice has the dominant position.
Mir blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Slice misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mir.
Slice tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Mir avoids it.
Slice is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mir is defending well for now.
Slice looks gassed!

Mir pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Slice tries to clinch but Mir is having none of it.
Slice tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mir tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slice swivels and escapes.

Mir closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Slice to the mat! Slice manages to get full guard.
Mir is looking to work some ground and pound but Slice has wrist control.
Mir wants to get up but he can't break Slice's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mir throws and elbow that misses. Slice uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mir's guard. Nice move by Slice!

Slice stopping the sweep attempt from Mir.

Mir pushes Slice off and gets back to his feet.
Mir scores with a push kick.
Mir circles away from the clinch attempt.
Slice tries to clinch there but Mir circles away.
Mir avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Slice tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Slice tries to close the distance and clinch but Mir swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A combination from Mir does no damage.
Kimbo Slice seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mir instigates a clinch.
Slice tries to land knees in the clinch but Mir avoids the damage to the body.
Slice is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mir is defending well for now.

Mir dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mir has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Slice regains guard immediately.

Mir stands up from Slice's guard - Mir perhaps looking for a knockout.
Slice tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Mir counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Slice!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Mir bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Slice regains half guard, as Mir was trying to land strikes.

Mir stands up out of the half guard.

Mir rushes Slice and presses him up against the cage.

Mir breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mir could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mir fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Slice darts in trying to clinch

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mir tries to free his leg and advance position but Slice is retaining full guard.

Mir is looking to stand up but Slice won't let him.

Slice pushes Mir off and gets back to his feet.
Slice tries to clinch but Mir moves away

so Mir counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Slice wriggles free and stands up.
Slice tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Mir counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mir.
Slice keeping full guard, as Mir tries to pass.
Mir wants to stand and escape but instead Slice has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mir pushes Slice off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Mir is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Slice's half guard.
Slice is trying to stand.

Mir escapes and gets back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mir.
Slice looks to clinch

and Mir moves into the clinch.
Mir tries to pull guard but Slice won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Slice misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mir.
Mir is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Slice pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Slice stands up and waves to Mir to follow him.
Slice wants to clinch but Mir slips to the side

and Mir counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Mir wants to pass the guard but Slice is defending well.
Mir missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Slice is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mir thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Slice's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mir is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mir is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Slice is in a horrible position here. Mir smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Slice closes the distance but Mir moves to the side

and Mir decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Slice's guard.
Mir would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Frank Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Mir lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Slice avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Slice keeping full guard, as Mir tries to pass.

Slice pushes Mir off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Slice clinches but Mir breaks the clinch

and Mir counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Slice's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mir is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Slice preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mir has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mir prevents Slice from getting back to his feet.
Mir throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Slice works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mir trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mir would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Mir works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mir tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Mir prevents Slice from standing back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mir shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Slice's guard.

Frank Mir is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

and Mir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Mir drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Slice gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Frank Mir showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mir, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
