PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Mullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rick James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Larry Mullen!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mullen misses with a series of wild punches.
Mullen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent James stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mullen throws out the jab.
James shoots in but no luck this time.
Mullen has his takedown stuffed

and James counters with a nice double leg into guard.

James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
James in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mullen has his hands on James's head, controlling the position.

Mullen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James has taken the fight to the clinch.

A nice right hand lands inside from James.

Mullen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mullen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
James wants to control from the top but Mullen keeps moving.

James is looking to work some ground and pound but Mullen has wrist control.

Mullen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. James doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. James manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Mullen throws an overhand right that lands on James's shoulder, as James tries to avoid the shot.

James throws a right hand that Mullen ducks under and follows up with a left that Mullen also avoids with ease.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mullen but Mullen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
James moves out of range of the strikes.
Mullen bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.
James wanted to stand there but Mullen had control of the position.
Mullen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

James gets to his feet. Mullen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
James throws a left and a right that both miss
and Mullen counters with a one-two to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick James dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



James looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Mullen!
Mullen tries to lock up and control but James gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

James is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Mullen tries to score with a low kick but James moves his leg out of the way.
Donk. James catches Mullen right on the button with a cross.
Mullen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mullen is breathing heavily.
James is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

James stands up from Mullen's guard - James perhaps looking for a knockout.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
James fails with an attempt to clinch.

James gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mullen moves into the clinch.
James drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mullen gets the underhooks and prevents it.

James is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mullen can't fight it off and eventually James manages to take the fight to the floor. Mullen looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James won't allow Mullen to get back to his feet.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mullen lunges at James with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by James's hand.

James closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - James lands in his opponent's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick James dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Rick James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells James's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Mullen keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mullen looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but James is defending well. Mullen quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! James has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Mullen celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
