PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Saku Sammakko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Gomez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Julian Gomez was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Saku Sammakko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Julian Gomez!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Glass and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sammakko doesn't manage to clinch there - Gomez circles away.
Gomez swats away the attempt to clinch by Sammakko.
Gomez tries to close the distance and clinch but Sammakko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Sammakko drives through and clinches with Gomez against the cage.
Sammakko lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Gomez drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sammakko gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gomez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gomez tries to pull guard but Sammakko won't allow it.
Saku Sammakko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julian Gomez.
Sammakko misses with a short punch on the inside.
Gomez blocking some punches.
Sammakko is trying to stall.
Sammakko looking to throw knees to the head but Gomez is blocking nicely.

Gomez has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Sammakko clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Gomez gets his hands free as Sammakko looks to control.
Sammakko tries to escape but Gomez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Gomez scores with punches to the body.
Sammakko is really stuck here.

Gomez throwing damaging strikes from the back! Sammakko could be in trouble here!
Gomez tries to get the hooks in deep but Sammakko pushed the leg off.
Sammakko is taking damage to the body and head.
Gomez is looking to control Sammakko but Sammakko is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Even with his hooks in, Gomez manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Gomez lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Sammakko.
Gomez scores with punches from the back.
Sammakko covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sammakko tries to break free.
Gomez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Gomez is trying to stick to Sammakko's back but Sammakko is turning into Gomez. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gomez's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sammakko.
Sammakko prevents Gomez from getting back to his feet.
Sammakko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gomez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gomez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sammakko is one step ahead there.
Sammakko trying to control the position from guard on top but Gomez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sammakko won't allow Gomez to sweep him here.
Gomez trying to keep a closed guard but Sammakko is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Sammakko gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sammakko throws a head punch that misses.
Sammakko has a couple of punches blocked by Gomez.
Sammakko misses with the head strike.
Sammakko stops a takedown attempt from Gomez.
Gomez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sammakko prevents it.
Sammakko has a couple of punches blocked by Gomez.
Sammakko with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Gomez unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sammakko lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Gomez presses Sammakko against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Gomez as Sammakko tries to tie him up.

Gomez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gomez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Gomez pushes a forearm under Sammakko's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sammakko is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Julian Gomez!
