Gomez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Samba De Janeiro kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nyrkki closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Nyrkki lands in his opponent's guard.
Nyrkki keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gomez's head.

Gomez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Nyrkki drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gomez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nyrkki has Gomez in his guard.

Gomez wants to control from the top but Nyrkki keeps moving.

Nyrkki has his foot on Gomez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gomez works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Nyrkki shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nyrkki showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nyrkki is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gomez still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gomez has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
