PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Slone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chase comes to the cage accompanied by Victory by Viking Quest. Slone has chosen In The Air Tonight as his entrance music. Chad Slone is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chad Slone!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chase closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chase lands in his opponent's guard.
Slone not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Chase chips away with some ground and pound.

Chase drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chase jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Chase is breathing heavily.
Slone is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Chase trying to control the position from guard on top but Slone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slone wants to stand up but Chase is controlling him.
Slone is trying to keep Chase in close.
Chase missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Slone fails to land with a series of punches.
Chase avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Slone tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chase swivels and escapes.
Slone throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Chase shoots in and drives through. Slone sprawls well.
Chase dodges the punch combination from Slone.

Chase drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Slone can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chase controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chase stands up and waves to Slone to follow him.

Slone tries to land a sweep but no joy.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Slone is on top in guard.
Slone tries to free his leg and advance position but Chase is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Slone scoring with some ground and pound.
Slone trying to control but Chase is working from the bottom.
Chase is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Chase tries to strike from the bottom.
Chase is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Slone is controlling him.

Chase throws a jab but it's blocked by Slone.

Chase closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Slone is not content to let Chase control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chase tries to advance to mount but Slone denies him.
Chase is staying tight to Slone's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Slone struggling a bit here.

Chase decides to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chase with a lazy takedown attempt

so Slone counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Chase is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Slone trying to control but Chase is working from the bottom.
Chase will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Slone looking to pass the guard.

Slone gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Slone moves into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Slone can't find room to land a body shot as Chase controls the action.
Chase has Slone pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Slone manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Chase. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Slone escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A combination from Slone does no damage.
Slone shoots and misses

and Chase counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Slone!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Chase dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Slone looks to land a left hand but Chase moved out of range nicely.
Slone tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chase swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Slone slips a jab and a cross from Chase.
Some wild striking there from Slone.
Chase doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Slone counters with a thumping low kick.

Chase gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Chase has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Slone is trying to keep an underhook but Chase manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Slone works his way to full guard. Good work.

Slone is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Chase is controlling him.

Slone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chase doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chase manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Johnny Chase overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slone wants to sweep but no luck.

Chase advances position into side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chase wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Slone, who protects the arm well.
Chase working away.
Chase avoids the strikes from the bottom by Slone.
You can see the frustration on Slone's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Chase thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Slone can't do much from the bottom here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Chase wants to control but Slone is keeping him busy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Chase gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Chase working for a triangle but Slone defends it easily.
Slone postures up and lands a big shot to Chase's brow.
Slone won't allow Chase to sweep him here.
Slone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chase swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Slone stands up from Chase's guard - Slone perhaps looking for a knockout.

Slone misses with a takedown attempt
and Chase cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chase rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Slone moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Slone counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Slone.

Chase is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Chase wants to clinch up but Slone keeps it at a distance.

Slone gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Chase regains guard.

Chase is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Slone decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Slone tries to close the distance and clinch but Chase swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Slone doesn't manage to clinch there - Chase circles away.
Chase falls off balance throwing a combination

and Slone counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Chase flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Chase moves into full guard.
Chase keeping full guard, as Slone tries to pass.
Chase thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Chase is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Slone frees his head nicely. Oh but Chase has switched to an armbar! Slone is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
