The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Michael stuffs the takedown attempt from Downing. Downing gets slowly back to his feet.
Michael fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Michael rushes Downing and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Michael wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Downing is looking to improve his position.
Michael thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Michael tries to stand and escape but Downing is controlling the position.

Michael is thwarting Downing's attempts to control the position.
Downing moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
