PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fahir Hassan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shamrock is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by u die. Fahir Hassan has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hassan shoots in for a takedown but Shamrock shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Shamrock goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Shamrock feints and as Hassan raises his hands in defense, Shamrock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shamrock throws a big right hand that misses.
Hassan doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Hassan has his hands on Shamrock's head, controlling the position.
Hassan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
You get the feeling that Shamrock really doesn't like being in this position too much.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hassan won't let Shamrock get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Hassan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Shamrock wants to try and get back to his feet.

Hassan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hassan gets the takedown into side control.
Hassan cracks Shamrock with a big right hand but Shamrock just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Fahir Hassan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Hassan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Shamrock counters with a series of strikes. Hassan will be more careful next time no doubt.
Shamrock is looking to clinch but Hassan is avoiding it.

Shamrock darts in and clinches Hassan up against the cage.
Shamrock jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hassan walks away with a smile on his face. Shamrock gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Shamrock counters with a takedown into side control.

Hassan tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Shamrock postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Shamrock tries to score with some ground and pound. Hassan controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Hassan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shamrock is working away from the top position though.

Hassan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shamrock's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shamrock's back!

Hassan lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Shamrock hold on?!

Frank Shamrock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Shamrock tries to close the distance and clinch but Hassan swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Hassan counters with a shoot takedown. Shamrock fights it but they end up in guard.
Hassan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shamrock has his feet on Hassan's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Shamrock fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hassan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Shamrock closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Hassan tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shamrock wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Shamrock is trying to ground and pound but Hassan uses the momentary lack of control by Shamrock to regain half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shamrock shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Shamrock thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hassan's head.
Hassan wants to improve his position but Shamrock is controlling well.

Shamrock passes the guard and advances to mount!
Shamrock has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hassan's face.

Shamrock lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

I would just about give that final round to Frank Shamrock.
Well Shamrock has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
