Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Ryan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aslak Lappalainen!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ryan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ryan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jack Ryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ryan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ryan looking to sit in guard and control but Lappalainen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Lappalainen stuffs the takedown attempt from Ryan. Ryan gets slowly back to his feet.
Ryan looks for a takedown but Lappalainen sprawls well.
Ryan tries to land a front kick but Lappalainen steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Ryan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lappalainen's waist but Lappalainen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ryan off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Ryan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lappalainen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ryan sprawls well initially but Lappalainen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Lappalainen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Ryan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ryan is wriggling around trying to escape.

Ryan swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Ryan is looking to improve his position but Lappalainen isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ryan tries to hold on but Lappalainen postures up.
Lappalainen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ryan is working to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ryan regains half guard.
Ryan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lappalainen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lappalainen's back!
Lappalainen is keeping busy.

Ryan lands a shot to the head.
Lappalainen trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Ryan is not going to allow Lappalainen to sit and survive in this position.
Will Ryan go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Ryan is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Lappalainen has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ryan buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Ryan closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lappalainen to the mat! Lappalainen manages to get full guard.
Ryan is looking to stand up but Lappalainen won't let him.
Lappalainen keeping moving, preventing Ryan from controlling successfully.
Lappalainen has Ryan pulled in close to control his posture.
Ryan wants to pass the guard but Lappalainen is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Ryan will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Ryan tries to clinch up.
Lappalainen darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

and Lappalainen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ryan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Lappalainen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lappalainen takes a little break here. Ryan wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Ryan wants to get back to full guard but Lappalainen has mounted him!
Ryan is desperately trying to improve his position but Lappalainen has a good base and remains in mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lappalainen blocks Ryan's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Ryan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lappalainen lands a big elbow.
Lappalainen controlling his opponent.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ryan wants to hold on but Lappalainen pushes him away.

Lappalainen is trying to stick to Ryan's back but Ryan is turning into Lappalainen. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Lappalainen's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ryan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ryan takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
