PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sly Marbo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dish Water (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sly Marbo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dish Water!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Water throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Marbo was covering up waiting for the punch and Water finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Marbo keeping moving, preventing Water from controlling successfully.

Marbo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Water can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Water trying to control but Marbo is working from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Marbo holds on and takes a little breather.

Marbo controls Water momentarily but Water frees himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Marbo misses with a takedown

and Water counters with a shoot takedown. Marbo fights it but they end up in guard.
Water wants to control from the top but Marbo keeps moving.
Water slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Water trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Water trying to control but Marbo is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Water throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Marbo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marbo working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Water.
Water must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Marbo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Water counters by clinching up.

Marbo manages to break the clinch.

Water shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Water was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Marbo is desperately trying to improve his position but Water has a good base and remains in mount.
Water throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Water goes for an armbar but Marbo turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Marbo.
Water can't keep his opponent in guard - Marbo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Water is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Marbo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Marbo's back!

Marbo trying to get back to his feet but Water is in full control for now.
Water gets his hands free as Marbo looks to control.
Marbo looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

Water patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Water has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Water looks gassed!
Marbo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dish Water dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Marbo lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Water has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Water and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

so Water counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Water is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Marbo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Marbo has escaped and now he's on top!

Marbo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Marbo wants to pass the guard but Water is keeping the position.
Water is breathing heavily.

Marbo drops back looking for a leg! Water is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Water manages to kick Marbo off! Marbo jumps back into Water's guard.

Marbo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Water is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Marbo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Water looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Water looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Water!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Marbo is trying to control Water's posture but Water avoids it.
Water is looking to take a break and control but Marbo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Water tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Water is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Marbo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Marbo is trying to get back to half guard.

Water thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Water is defended easily by Marbo.
Marbo misses with a takedown

so Water counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Marbo is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Water wants to control from the top but Marbo keeps moving.
Water not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Marbo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Water drops back, looking for a kneebar! Marbo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Marbo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Marbo!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dish Water showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Water tries for a takedown but Marbo circles away easily
and Marbo counters with a left and a right that stings Water.
Water shoots in looking for a takedown. Marbo tries to sprawl out of it but Water keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Marbo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sly Marbo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Marbo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Water as he jumps to the side.
Marbo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Water decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marbo's guard.

Water drops back, looking for a kneebar! Marbo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Marbo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Marbo!
Water is looking for a sweep.
Dish Water has got the better of the ground game so far.
Water takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Marbo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Water has escaped the position, nice work there.
Water can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marbo stands up.

Marbo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Marbo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Water, who protects the arm well.

Marbo is trying to get an arm triangle but Water is defending well.

Water tries to bench press Marbo off him but Marbo keeps the position.
Marbo lands a few punches from side control.
Water wants to control but Marbo postures up.
Water tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Marbo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Marbo tries to advance to mount but can't.
Water tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Water regains half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marbo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Water's head.
Marbo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Water decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marbo's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sly Marbo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Water looking to sit in guard and control but Marbo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Marbo wants to stand but Water has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Water is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Marbo passes into half guard.
Sly Marbo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Water is trying to control but can't.
Water wants to improve his position but Marbo is controlling well.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Water has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marbo is working away from the top position though.
Marbo wants to take a breather but Water is having none of it.
Water is trying to maintain the position but Marbo is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Marbo throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Dish Water is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Water is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Marbo jumps into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sly Marbo.
I think Water has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
