The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hauis checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Smith fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hauis is looking to clinch.
A chopping leg kick lands by Hauis.
Hauis tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Smith changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hauis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Hauis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hauis is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well.

Hauis is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Smith has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Smith counters with a single leg into guard. Hauis didn't expect that.
Hauis wants to get back to his feet but Smith is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith forces his way into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Hauis's temple.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hauis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.

Hauis pushes Smith off looking to stand but Smith dives back in and keeps control.

That was a close round but I would say that Tom Smith will probably get the nod.

Smith has control of Hauis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hauis regains control of the situation pretty easily.
