PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Osmound (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Simon Osmound!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Osmound closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Osmound is trying to control the action in half guard but Sanchez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Osmound with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Sanchez gets back to full guard.
Osmound working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Sanchez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Osmound defends well.

Sanchez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Osmound from controlling successfully.

Osmound controlling from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Osmound stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Osmound has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Osmound trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sanchez pulls Osmound in close to prevent any damage.
Osmound wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
Sanchez keeping full guard, as Osmound tries to pass.
Osmound passes Sanchez's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sanchez wants to get back to full guard.
Osmound stalling.
Osmound working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Sanchez is trying to stand back up but Osmound is controlling him
Osmound is looking to take a break and control but Sanchez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sanchez is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Osmound trying to mount his opponent but Sanchez defends it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sanchez swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Sanchez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sanchez trying to control from Osmound's half guard. Osmound has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Sanchez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Sanchez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Osmound is keeping the position for now.
Osmound wants to stand up but Sanchez is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Osmound working for a triangle but Sanchez defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Simon Osmound will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Osmound tries for a takedown but Sanchez circles away easily

and Sanchez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sanchez.

Sanchez pulls guard.

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Osmound doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Osmound manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Osmound trying to control the position from guard on top but Sanchez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sanchez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Osmound slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Osmound tries to move into full mount but can't pass Sanchez's legs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanchez manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Osmound wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working.
Osmound is taking a breather. Sanchez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Sanchez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Osmound.
Sanchez is refusing to be controlled, as Osmound sits in half guard.
Sanchez is positioning himself well to prevent Osmound advancing to mount.
Osmound stalling away here and it's allowed Sanchez to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Osmound is one step ahead there.
Sanchez keeping moving, preventing Osmound from controlling successfully.
Osmound throws a strike but Sanchez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sanchez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Osmound wants to stand up but Sanchez is controlling him.

Sanchez drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Sanchez seems to have locked his on tight now - Osmound screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Sanchez, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Oscar Sanchez!
