PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Masahiro Tanaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yorihiko Jouichirou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Tanaka. No joy for Jouichirou on that attempt.
Jouichirou lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jouichirou.
Tanaka shoots and misses

and Jouichirou moves into the clinch.

Jouichirou gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Tanaka regains guard.

Tanaka manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jouichirou manages to get himself to full guard.
Tanaka trying to control the position from guard on top but Jouichirou is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jouichirou is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Jouichirou wants to take a breather but Tanaka is having none of it.
Tanaka tries to roll over but Jouichirou keeps him under control.
Tanaka moves into full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tanaka has momentary wrist control but Jouichirou slips an elbow through the middle.
Jouichirou must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tanaka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jouichirou's guard.
Tanaka scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Jouichirou isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tanaka stacks Jouichirou on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tanaka!

Tanaka in side control lands a decent elbow.
Jouichirou is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Tanaka asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Jouichirou tries to buck Tanaka off but Tanaka is having none of it.
Jouichirou looks gassed!
Tanaka lands a nice forearm strike.
Tanaka is putting a hurting on Jouichirou here, landing some big shots from side control.
Jouichirou tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jouichirou is not content to let Tanaka control the position.
Tanaka lands a decent elbow from side control.
Tanaka wants to control but Jouichirou is keeping him busy.

Tanaka tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tanaka stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Tanaka doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jouichirou counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Tanaka's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Tanaka wants to sweep but no luck.
Tanaka throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Jouichirou working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jouichirou slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jouichirou shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tanaka but Tanaka pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Jouichirou counters by clinching up.

Tanaka is looking to control Jouichirou's arms but Jouichirou gets an underhook and turns him. Now Tanaka has his back to the cage.
Jouichirou drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tanaka pulls his leg out and moves away.
Masahiro Tanaka has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yorihiko Jouichirou.
Tanaka thuds his shin into the meat of Jouichirou's side.

Tanaka tries to hold on but Jouichirou pushes him away.

Tanaka is rocked!
Jouichirou in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Oh Tanaka is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jouichirou lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Tanaka hang on?
Jouichirou is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Tanaka can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Jouichirou is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Jouichirou shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Jouichirou slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Jouichirou lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.
