PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergio Puyol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Puyol's choice of entrance music: Enter Sandman- Metallica. Sergio Puyol is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergio Puyol!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Dean Styles and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Puyol gets a takedown into half guard.
Curtis tries to get to full guard but Puyol has control of the leg.

Puyol looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Puyol seems to be working for a kimura but Curtis defends the submission attempt.
Puyol works his foot free and advances to mount.

Curtis is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Puyol is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Curtis still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Curtis has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Puyol is looking for a sweep.
Curtis has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Curtis avoids the attempt from Puyol to control.
Puyol is in all sorts of trouble here.
Curtis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Puyol's face.

Curtis has control of Puyol's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Puyol regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Puyol is looking to improve his position but Curtis isn't that keen on the idea.

Curtis has hold of Puyol's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Puyol manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Puyol regains half guard.
Puyol is looking to improve his position.
Curtis is trying to control. Puyol wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Curtis is looking to advance position but Puyol won't allow it.
Puyol is looking to improve his position.
Curtis throwing shots but Puyol is blocking nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Puyol is staying active underneath Curtis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Puyol gets full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Puyol decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Curtis's guard.
Puyol controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Puyol drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Puyol jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Puyol thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Curtis is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Puyol has his hands clasped together but Curtis extends an breaks Puyol's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Curtis.
