PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aimo Kurmottaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monkey Luffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Monkey Luffy was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aimo Kurmottaja!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Monkey Luffy!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurmottaja pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Luffy misses with a takedown attempt - Kurmottaja sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A big right from Luffy misses.
Nice takedown defense from Kurmottaja. No joy for Luffy on that attempt.
Luffy takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Luffy avoids the head kick by Kurmottaja.
Kurmottaja throws a solid leg kick but Luffy takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Kurmottaja.
Monkey Luffy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kurmottaja turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Luffy shoots in looking for a takedown. Kurmottaja tries to sprawl out of it but Luffy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kurmottaja manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Aimo Kurmottaja has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monkey Luffy.
Luffy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kurmottaja is fending him off so far but Luffy persists. Nope, Kurmottaja circles away and we're back to standing.
Kurmottaja with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Luffy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Luffy trying to mount his opponent but Kurmottaja defends it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kurmottaja is trying to stand back up but Luffy is controlling him
Kurmottaja is controlling Luffy's trapped leg to prevent Luffy from advancing to side control.
Luffy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kurmottaja does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kurmottaja is trying to get back to full guard.
Luffy is trying to control. Kurmottaja wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kurmottaja tries to get to full guard but Luffy has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Luffy wants to take a breather but Kurmottaja is having none of it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kurmottaja throws a leg kick but Luffy checks it.
Kurmottaja turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Kurmottaja lands a really nice looking cross but Luffy seems unphased.

Kurmottaja forces Luffy back against the cage and clinches.
Kurmottaja lands an elbow inside that Luffy shrugs off.
Kurmottaja comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Luffy can't break the clinch.
Kurmottaja avoiding damage.
Luffy drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Luffy is trying to break free.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurmottaja has Luffy pressed against the cage, preventing Luffy from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Luffy tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Kurmottaja for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Kurmottaja on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Kurmottaja lands an elbow inside that Luffy shrugs off.
Kurmottaja is pushing Luffy up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Luffy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kurmottaja is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Kurmottaja just leaning against Luffy, taking a breather.
Luffy wants a takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Luffy looking to stall.
Kurmottaja gets underhooks to prevent Luffy's takedown attempt.
Kurmottaja lands an elbow that stopped Luffy in his tracks for a moment.


It looks like Monkey Luffy has been cut.
Luffy tries to pull guard but Kurmottaja holds him up against the cage and eventually Luffy drops back down to his feet.
Kurmottaja controlling the action here for a moment.

Kurmottaja breaks from the clinch.
Luffy tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Kurmottaja counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kurmottaja tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aimo Kurmottaja dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Monkey Luffy's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Luffy misses with a takedown
and Kurmottaja counters with a nice low kick that buckles Luffy's knee momentarily.

Kurmottaja lands a big head kick that sends Luffy tumbling to the mat! Kurmottaja takes a step backwards and waves Luffy back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Luffy is rocked!
Aimo Kurmottaja is winning the standup battle so far.

Luffy decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Luffy is keen to just control but Kurmottaja is a slippery customer.

Luffy wants to work for an arm triangle but Kurmottaja is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kurmottaja wants to get back to full guard.
Kurmottaja is refusing to be controlled, as Luffy sits in half guard.
Luffy not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kurmottaja tries to kick Luffy off but Luffy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kurmottaja is looking to improve his position.

Luffy has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Kurmottaja defend it? Luffy steps over the head and cranks it - Kurmottaja is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Luffy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Monkey Luffy!
