The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
van der Val throws a nice looking combination but Hooidjonk bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hooidjonk walks into a stiff left hand from van der Val.
van der Val misses with a wild combination.
Nice takedown defense from Hooidjonk. No joy for van der Val on that attempt.
van der Val throws the left hand but Hooidjonk avoids the punch easily.
van der Val drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
van der Val tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
van der Val wants to control but Hooidjonk is keeping him busy.
van der Val has hold of Hooidjonk's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hooidjonk tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - van der Val cranks the arm and Hooidjonk screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hooidjonk, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Alex van der Val!
