Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ernie Whit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Rico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rico has chosen The Fight Song as his entrance music. Ernie Whit has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ernie Whit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Rico!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jonathan Paton and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rico tries to land a front kick but Whit steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Whit closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Whit.
Rico tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Whit avoids it.
Rico stalls.

Whit shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rico manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Rico stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whit swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Whit swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Rico fails with an attempt to clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Whit shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rico as he jumps to the side.
Whit is breathing heavily.
Whit rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rico moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rico lands a high kick!


It looks like Ernie Whit has been cut.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rico is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Rico makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rico.
Rico tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Rico is pulling down on Whit's head to control his posture.
Let's hope that Rico has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Whit has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Rico wants to sweep here but Whit controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rico goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Rico feints and then cracks Whit's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Whit down.
No luck for Whit with that takedown attempt.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ernie Whit's cut is getting worse.

Whit closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rico to the mat! Rico manages to get full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rico is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Whit's half guard.

Rico tries to close the distance and clinch but Whit swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rico throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Whit blocks it with crossed arms.

Johnny Rico comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Rico winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
