PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maverick John Manabat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Shephard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maverick John Manabat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Shephard!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Shephard does no damage.
Manabat tries to land a front kick but Shephard steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Shephard looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Shephard closes this distance looking for a takedown but Manabat circles away.

Shephard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Manabat paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Manabat knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shephard on the ground.

Shephard tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shephard has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shephard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Shephard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Shephard has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Manabat's face.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Shephard shoots in looking for a takedown. Manabat tries to sprawl out of it but Shephard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Manabat manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Shephard lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Shephard.

Manabat has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shephard uses from the top position.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Shephard throws a hook but Manabat avoids it easily.
Shephard steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Manabat. That one must have hurt.

Shephard is fighting off a takedown attempt but Manabat is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Shephard to the mat. Shephard regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Manabat has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Shephard is proving hard to escape from.

Shephard has his foot on Manabat's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Manabat works his way back into a safe position though.

Manabat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shephard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Manabat has managed to get both his arms back between Shephard's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Shephard has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Manabat is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Shephard.

Manabat stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Jack Shephard is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
