The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mann bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on De Groot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mann postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! De Groot is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mann, into his guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as De Groot accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Groot can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mann goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, De Groot has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mann but great work by De Groot.

De Groot has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mann avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Mann tightens his grip and picks De Groot up, before dumping him to the ground. De Groot manages to land in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
De Groot wants to sweep here but Mann controlling him for the moment.

Juan Mann is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Mann is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mann, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
