PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scooby Doo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Trueblood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doo comes to the cage accompanied by Scooby Doo Theme Song. Doo has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scooby Doo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rob Trueblood!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Trueblood swivels and escapes.
Doo is breathing heavily.
Trueblood has his takedown stuffed

and Doo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Trueblood won't be happy with that.
Doo working away.
Trueblood manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Doo prevents Trueblood from standing back up.
Trueblood wants to improve his position but Doo is controlling well.
Trueblood is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Doo blocks the strikes from Trueblood.
Trueblood is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Trueblood really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Trueblood wants to improve his position but Doo is controlling well.
Doo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Trueblood fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Doo, pushing him back against the cage.

Trueblood manages to break the clinch.

Trueblood closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Doo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Trueblood's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Trueblood tries to close the distance and clinch up but Doo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Trueblood tries to clinch but Doo moves out of range.
Trueblood shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Trueblood clinches up with Doo and pushes him back against the cage.
Trueblood gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Trueblood wants the takedown. Doo is fighting it off but Trueblood persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Doo's guard against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Trueblood slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Trueblood is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Doo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Doo tries to buck Trueblood off but Trueblood is having none of it.
Trueblood is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Trueblood slows the pace down.

Trueblood wants to control but Doo is keeping him busy.

Trueblood stands up and beckons Doo to his feet.

Trueblood has taken the fight to the clinch.

Trueblood has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Doo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Doo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Doo trying to get back to his feet but Trueblood is in full control for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Doo wants to escape the position.
Doo looking very determined here, making life difficult for Trueblood.
Doo covering up well under a series of strikes from Trueblood.
Doo controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Trueblood dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Trueblood gets the takedown into side control.

Trueblood stands up.
Trueblood tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Doo takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Doo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Doo counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Trueblood!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Trueblood gets back to half guard.
It looks like Doo is going to stand back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Doo wants to stand up but Trueblood manages to regain full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trueblood wants to control but Doo passes easily into half guard.
Doo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Trueblood wants to get back to full guard.
Trueblood pushes Doo off looking to stand but Doo dives back in and keeps control.
Trueblood has hold of Doo's hands but Doo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Doo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Doo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Trueblood doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Doo.
Doo prevents Trueblood from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Trueblood closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Doo is not content to let Trueblood control the position.
Trueblood looking to control but instead Doo has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trueblood tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Trueblood trying to control the action but Doo is working from the bottom.
Trueblood landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Trueblood throws a sloppy head kick and Doo moves out of range easily.
Trueblood shoots in for a double leg but Doo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Doo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Trueblood did well to prevent Doo getting side control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Trueblood showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Doo misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Doo fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Trueblood manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Trueblood wants to pass to mount but Doo is defending the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Trueblood in particular looking to stall.
Trueblood wants to take a breather but Doo is having none of it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Trueblood passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Doo!
Trueblood avoids the attempt from Doo to control.
Doo taking shots to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Trueblood can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Doo is looking to escape.

Trueblood has hold of Doo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Doo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Doo tries to buck Trueblood off but he can't manage it.

Rob Trueblood has got the better of the ground game so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Doo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Trueblood landing strikes from the mount and Doo is in trouble!
Trueblood wants to control the pace but Doo is squirming around nicely.
Trueblood sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Rob Trueblood comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Trueblood has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
