PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Hass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Costa comes into the arena with Head Dance blaring out of the sound system. Hass is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Boats N Hoes. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eduardo Costa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Hass!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Costa.
Hass misses with a takedown

and Costa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hass's guard.
Hass trying to keep a closed guard but Costa is proving a slippery customer.

Hass looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Hass throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Costa throwing strikes from guard but Hass blocks nicely.
Costa wants to control from the top but Hass keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Costa is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hass looking to control.

Hass is looking for a triangle but Costa pushes his legs off easily.
Costa won't allow Hass to sweep him here.
Costa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hass manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Costa manages to get himself to full guard.
Hass is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hass thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hass looks gassed!

Costa looking for a guillotine here but Hass defends easily.
Hass looking to sit in guard and control but Costa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Costa drops back looking for a leg! Hass is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hass manages to kick Costa off! Costa jumps back into Hass's guard.

Hass working for a triangle but Costa defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hass has his foot on Costa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Costa works his way back into a safe position though.

Hass working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Costa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Costa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hass utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hass is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Hass is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Costa is aware though and is defending well.
Costa connects with a couple of short punches.
Costa really is a fat lump.
Costa postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Costa throws a big right hand that misses.
Costa stands up over Hass, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hass avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hass preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Costa wants to stand but Hass is controlling his posture from full guard.
Hass can't keep his opponent in guard - Costa advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hass wants to control but Costa is keeping busy.

Costa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hass defends it well.

Hass is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Costa pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eduardo Costa dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Costa throws a series of strikes that have Hass backpedaling.
Costa gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hass counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Hass throws a left and a right that both miss

and Costa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Costa.
Costa throws and elbow that misses. Hass uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Costa's guard. Nice move by Hass!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hass drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Hass seems to have locked his on tight now - Costa screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Hass, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Jack Hass!
