PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rusty Trombone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jet Fen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty Trombone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jet Fen!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fen waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Trombone.

Fen lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Trombone sprawling to the canvas. Fen follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Trombone hang on?


Trombone is rocked!


It looks like Rusty Trombone has been cut.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fen controlling the action here.
Oh Trombone is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Trombone is doing well to control the position and prevent Fen from advancing to side control.
Trombone seems to have got his legs back now.
Fen wants to pass to mount but Trombone is defending the position.
Fen is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Fen controlling the pace for now.
Trombone really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fen trying to control but Trombone is having none of it.
Trombone is trying to escape the mount.

Fen is working for a guillotine from mount but Trombone frees his head quite easily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Trombone defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Fen.
Trombone wants to get back to his feet.
Trombone holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Fen tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fen tries to control but Trombone wriggling away.

Fen is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Trombone has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Trombone!

Trombone avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Trombone looking to pass the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Trombone is working hard here to advance position.
Fen doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Trombone looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Trombone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jet Fen dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rusty Trombone's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Trombone throws the left hand but Fen avoids the punch easily.
Fen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trombone defends it nicely.
Fen looks for a takedown but Trombone sprawls well.
Fen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rusty Trombone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jet Fen.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Trombone.
Fen is looking to reverse the position.
Fen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trombone controls the position.
Fen controls the position for a moment.
Fen tries to improve position but can't.
Trombone just content to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Trombone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Fen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Trombone's best efforts.
Trombone will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fen is looking for a sweep. Trombone is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fen is staying active underneath Trombone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fen trying to control from the bottom.

Fen is trying to get back to full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Fen has his takedown stuffed

and Trombone counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fen is breathing heavily.

Fen looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Trombone controlling from the top position.
Trombone pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fen is keeping the position for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fen wants to free his trapped foot but Trombone is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Trombone wants to improve his position but Fen is controlling well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Trombone is not content to let Fen control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rusty Trombone dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Rusty Trombone's cut.
That's time! Trombone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


A low kick from Fen misses

and Trombone counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fen won't be happy with that.
Fen is trying to work for a sweep but Trombone has mounted him!
Fen wants to hold on but Trombone pushes him away.
Trombone looking to control and managing it successfully.
Fen tries to lock up and control but Trombone gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fen working to try and regain half guard.
Trombone controlling the pace for now.
Trombone avoids the attempt from Fen to control.
Trombone controlling from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fen swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Fen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Fen tries to hold on but Trombone postures up.
Fen is desperately trying to improve his position but Trombone has a good base and remains in mount.
Fen wants to control but Trombone is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Trombone controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fen tries to hold on but Trombone pushes him away.
Trombone takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fen is desperately trying to improve his position but Trombone has a good base and remains in mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rusty Trombone showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Trombone has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
