PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samoa Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martti Metsonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Metsonen has chosen - as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Samoa Joe is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Samoa Joe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Martti Metsonen!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Metsonen.
Joe is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joe takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Metsonen creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Metsonen has control of Joe's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Joe regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Metsonen prevents Joe from getting the reversal.
Metsonen won't let Joe get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Joe sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Joe shoots in for a double leg but Metsonen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Joe lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Samoa Joe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Metsonen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Metsonen rushes Joe and presses him up against the cage.
Joe is trying to drag Metsonen to the mat but Metsonen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Metsonen presses Joe against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Metsonen is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Metsonen scores a nice knee to the body.

Metsonen gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Joe regains guard.

Joe had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Metsonen is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Joe Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Metsonen's back instead.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Joe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Metsonen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Joe lands with a hook. Metsonen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
The fight stays on the outside here - Joe looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Well Metsonen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
