Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny Purcell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kenny Purcell has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Sam Shaw's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Purcell!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Purcell on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Shaw changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Purcell tries to avoid it but Shaw manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Purcell to the ground. Purcell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Shaw slips under a jab from Purcell.
Shaw misses with a wild combination.
Purcell moves out of range of the strikes.
Purcell tries to clinch but Shaw moves out of range.
Shaw lands a body shot.
Purcell leaves Shaw with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Shaw is defended easily by Purcell.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Shaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Purcell tries to clinch there but Shaw circles away.

Shaw shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Purcell's guard.
Shaw's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Shaw stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Purcell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Purcell trying to keep a closed guard but Shaw is proving a slippery customer.
Shaw throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Purcell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Purcell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shaw is one step ahead there.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Shaw shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Purcell as he jumps to the side.
Shaw circles away from the clinch attempt.
Shaw scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Purcell on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Shaw keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Shaw scores with a nice head shot.
Purcell is looking to clinch but Shaw is avoiding it.
Purcell leaves Shaw with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Shaw tries for a takedown but Purcell sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shaw misses with a wild body shot.
Shaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Purcell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shaw somewhat.
Purcell fails with an attempt to clinch.

Shaw feints and as Purcell raises his hands in defense, Shaw changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Purcell looking to sit in guard and control but Shaw gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Purcell can do anything to dispel that myth.

Shaw is fighting to break Purcell's control of his arms but Purcell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Shaw controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Purcell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Purcell wants to control the position but Shaw says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Shaw is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Purcell looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Shaw dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Purcell stuffs the takedown attempt from Shaw. Shaw gets slowly back to his feet.
Purcell fails with an attempt to clinch.
Shaw misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Shaw scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Purcell misses with a body kick.
Purcell moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Purcell tries to clinch there but Shaw circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Purcell wants to clinch up but Shaw keeps it at a distance.
Shaw throws a right and a left that both miss.

Purcell moves in looking to clinch but Shaw pushes him off.
Purcell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shaw.
Sam Shaw is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Purcell has taken the fight to the clinch.
Purcell lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Purcell dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Shaw decides to pull guard.
Shaw is adopting a defensive guard.
Shaw is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Purcell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shaw. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shaw manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Purcell tries to lock up and control but Shaw gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Purcell is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Shaw is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Purcell is defending well though. Shaw let's go of the attempt for now.

Purcell rolls, trying to escape but Shaw keeps control of the position.
Purcell just trying to survive but Shaw is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

A slow jab from Shaw misses its intended target.
Purcell takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Shaw throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Purcell was covering up waiting for the punch and Shaw finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Purcell thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Shaw postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Shaw is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Sam Shaw overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Purcell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shaw is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Purcell looking to improve position, pressing down on Shaw's thigh with his hand. Shaw seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Purcell paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Purcell's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Shaw picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
