PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Keon Cash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodney Ang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cash comes to the cage accompanied by Unsung. Ang comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Long Way To The Top kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Rodney Ang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Keon Cash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodney Ang!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ang gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ang looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cash is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Cash wants to control but Ang postures up.
Ang taking a break here but Cash is having none of it and regains half guard.
Ang is pressing down on Cash's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cash is holding on for now.
Ang missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Ang throwing shots but Cash is blocking nicely.
Ang wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cash keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cash looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Ang throws a series of punches but Cash moves out of range.

Cash instigates a clinch.
Ang is working for takedown but Cash is calmly controlling the position for now.
Cash scores a nice knee to the body.
Ang looks gassed!

Cash lands an elbow just above Ang 's eye.

Cash drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ang gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Cash moves in looking to clinch but Ang pushes him off.
Rodney Ang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cash tries to clinch there but Ang circles away.

Cash forces Ang back against the cage and clinches.
Cash creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Ang wants a takedown but no success here.
Keon Cash has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodney Ang.
Cash lands a damaging elbow.
Ang tries to stall but Cash uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Cash comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Cash with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Cash gets control of Ang's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cash will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Ang wants to control from the top but Cash keeps moving.
Cash has his hands on Ang's head, controlling the position.
Ang won't allow Cash to sweep him here.

Cash preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ang missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cash throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Cash avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ang trying to control the position from guard on top but Cash is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ang avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Ang clinches up with Cash and pushes him back against the cage.
Ang lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Cash or not.
Ang blocks the elbow strike.

Cash manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Ang connects with a couple of short punches.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ang throws a big right hand that misses.
Cash wants to stand up but Ang is controlling him.

Cash avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ang landing some decent shots from guard.
Cash avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cash holds on and takes a little breather.
Cash is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ang trying to control from the bottom.
Ang is trying to get back to full guard.
Cash wants to stand but Ang has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keon Cash dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Ang clinches with his opponent.
Cash misses with a knee to the head.
Ang is looking to control Cash's arms but Cash gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ang has his back to the cage.
Cash throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Cash misses with a knee strike.
Cash prevents the takedown attempt.
Cash tries to land a knee to the head but Ang blocks with his arms.
Ang working aggressively here.
A short uppercut from Ang.

Ang pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ang misses with a body shot.
Ang misses with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ang lands a body shot.
Ang lands a with a good body shot.
Cash displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ang.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ang lands with a cross.

Cash closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ang can't do much from the bottom here.
Cash wants to control but Ang is keeping him busy.
Ang tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cash wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Ang is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Cash off and has taken his back!
Cash covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Ang lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Ang cracks Cash with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Cash from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Ang not allowing Cash to control his hands.
Ang is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Cash up.
Ang is not going to allow Cash to sit and survive in this position.

Cash trying to get back to his feet but Ang is in full control for now.
Ang lands strikes to the head.
Ang has Cash flattened out and is raining down punches.
Ang trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Cash doesn't escape.
Cash turns into Ang and is now in his guard.
Ang manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cash manages to get himself to full guard.
Ang passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cash bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Ang looking for a guillotine here but Cash defends easily.

Ang not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cash is one step ahead there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ang throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Ang is trying to control the position but Cash postures up.
Cash controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ang darts in and clinches Cash up against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Ang scores with a nice short uppercut.
Cash creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Cash throws an elbow but it misses.

Cash pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cash tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A decent looking cross lands there for Ang.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rodney Ang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Keon Cash is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cash tries to clinch but fails miserably

Ang scores with a shot to the side of Cash's head.

and Ang counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ang.
Ang lands with a left to the head.
Ang is looking to break free of the clinch but Cash has double underhooks.

Cash gets through Ang's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Cash just misses with a elbow thrown towards Ang's brow.
Ang has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cash avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Ang is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cash is keeping busy.

and Ang counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Cash's guard now.

Cash utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Ang trying to control but Cash is working from the bottom.
Cash has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Rodney Ang has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Cash drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Ang gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cash regains guard.
Ang with a nice head shot there.
Ang wants to control from the top but Cash keeps moving.

Cash has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ang off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and Cash counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Cash lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Ang trying to stall but Cash improves his position.
Cash is pressed up against the cage. Ang has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cash down to the mat. Cash avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rodney Ang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ang has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
