PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Vortex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesner has chosen drop th world as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brock Lesner!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vortex drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vortex working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Lesner keeping full guard, as Vortex tries to pass.
Vortex trying to control the position from guard on top but Lesner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Vortex stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lesner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vortex loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vortex trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vortex has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vortex shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lesner wants to control but Vortex is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Lesner is trying to maintain the position but Vortex is very close to passing his half guard.

Vortex drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lesner looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lesner looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lesner!

Lesner misses with a takedown attempt

and Vortex counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lesner's guard now.
Vortex tries to free his leg and advance position but Lesner is retaining full guard.
Vortex is looking to work some ground and pound but Lesner has wrist control.

Vortex makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Vortex thows a big elbow that misses.
Lesner is breathing heavily.

Vortex drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Lesner manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vortex has Lesner in his guard.

Lesner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vortex looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vortex looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vortex!

Vortex is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lesner is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Vortex tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vortex has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vortex is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lesner has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vortex goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Lesner has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Vortex but great work by Lesner.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Vortex counters with a single leg into guard. Lesner didn't expect that.

Vortex postures up in Lesner's guard and throws a big left but Lesner blocks it.

Vortex drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Vortex as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Lesner screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Vortex! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Anthony Vortex!
