The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manaloto slaps away a takedown attempt from Mendes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mendes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mendes has control of Manaloto's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Manaloto regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Mendes is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Manaloto has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Manaloto!
Manaloto is breathing heavily.
Mendes wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Mendes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Manaloto defends well.
Manaloto would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mendes has his foot on Manaloto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Manaloto works his way back into a safe position though.
Mendes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Mendes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Manaloto looks a forlorn figure.

Manaloto turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Mendes off and cradles Manaloto's limp body as Mendes celebrates with his corner.
