PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ilpo Larha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucky Seven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lucky Seven told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ilpo Larha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lucky Seven!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Seven does no damage.

Seven has taken the fight to the clinch.
Seven misses with a knee to the head.

Larha manages to pull guard.
Seven postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Seven really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Larha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Seven stopping the sweep attempt from Larha.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Larha holds on and takes a little breather.

Larha had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Seven is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Larha Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Seven's back instead.
Larha connects with a big shot to the side of Seven's head.

Larha looking to break Seven's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Seven remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Larha will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Larha tries to get the hooks in deep but Seven pushed the leg off.
Larha thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Larha lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Seven.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Larha punishes Seven with strikes from the back mount.

Will Larha go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Seven manages to reverse the position and now he's in Larha's guard. Nice work there by Seven.

Larha is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Larha is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Seven doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Larha.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Larha thows a huge punch but Seven dodges it nicely.
Seven wants to control but Larha passes into side.
Larha has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Larha laying and praying for a moment but Seven takes advantage and regains half guard.
Larha is thwarting Seven's attempts to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Seven can do anything to dispel that myth.
Seven is not content to let Larha control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Seven tries to clinch but Larha moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Seven tries to keep at a distance but Larha has taken the fight into the clinch.
Seven tries a knee to the head but Larha blocks it.

Larha has hold of one of Seven's legs. Seven is fighting the takedown attempt but Larha gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Larha trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Larha working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Larha wants to pass the guard but Seven is keeping the position.
Larha keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Seven's head.
Larha postures up.
Larha stands and throws Seven's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Ilpo Larha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Larha passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Seven!

Larha jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Seven is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Seven and Larha has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Seven tries to improve position but can't.
Seven is trying to get back to his feet.

Larha is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Seven knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Larha is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Seven is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Larha moves into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Larha moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Seven has worked his arm free - good work by Seven!

Larha tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Larha advances to mount.
Larha lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Larha connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Larha trying to control but Seven is having none of it.
Larha is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Seven can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Seven wants to control but Larha is having none of it.

Larha goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Seven turns into him and now he's in Larha's guard.
Larha is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Larha has his foot on Seven's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Seven works his way back into a safe position though.
Larha lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Seven!
Larha is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Larha avoids the attempt from Seven to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Larha forces Seven back against the cage and clinches.
Seven tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Larha drops down looking for an ankle pick but Seven pulls his leg out and moves away.
Larha stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Larha wants it to stay on the feet.

Larha scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Seven is staying active underneath Larha, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Larha has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Seven defend it? Larha steps over the head and cranks it - Seven is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Larha!
