PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Buxton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Buxton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Stone!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buxton feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Stone's calf.

Buxton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Stone, pushing him back against the cage.
Buxton managing to block the knees to the body from Stone.

Stone pulls guard successfully.
Stone preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Stone is controlling Buxton's posture.
Buxton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Stone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buxton is one step ahead there.
Buxton trying to control the position from guard on top but Stone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Stone is looking to sweep but instead, Buxton has passed into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone tries to get to full guard but Buxton has control of the leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Buxton.

Stone has his foot on Buxton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Buxton works his way back into a safe position though.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Buxton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Buxton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Buxton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Buxton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Buxton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Stone counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Stone connects with a nice short shot to Buxton's temple.
Well, if Stone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Stone is tying to control. Buxton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Stone is pressing down on Buxton's thigh, looking to free his foot. Buxton is holding on for now.
Buxton is staying active underneath Stone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Stone has hold of Buxton's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Buxton manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Stone lands a big shot there that rocks Buxton but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Stone has control of Buxton's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Buxton regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Stone fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Buxton manages to get himself to full guard.

Stone is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Buxton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Buxton has escaped and now he's on top!

Despite being in the dominant position, Paul Stone just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stone tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Stone has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A close second round but Paul Stone will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Buxton is squirming around, avoiding Stone's attempts to control the action.
Stone lands with some strikes.
Buxton stops Stone from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Buxton throwing hammer fists to the chest of Stone. What's that going to do exactly?

Stone jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Buxton manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Stone lands a few punches from side control.
Buxton is working to avoid the ground and pound but Stone connects with a decent elbow.
Stone working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Stone is working to tighten is grip on Buxton's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Buxton has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Stone is really squeezing tight and eventually Buxton passes out! Stone breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
