Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Negra Modelo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Modelo. Modelo gets slowly back to his feet.

Modelo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Modelo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee warns Modelo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Smith's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Modelo closes the distance looking for a takedown. Smith stuffs it but Modelo still has hold of him. Modelo picks Smith up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Modelo slams Smith to the floor and that's really hurt Smith - he doesn't know where he is! Modelo throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
