PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Jeantet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drake kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Beamer, Benz, or Bentley by Lloyd Banks. Kevin Jeantet will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gavin Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Jeantet!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeantet swinging wilding here.
Jeantet shoots in but Drake avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jeantet connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Drake gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jeantet counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Jeantet changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Drake looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jeantet in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Jeantet trying to control the action but Drake is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drake is looking to reverse the position.

Jeantet working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Jeantet tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jeantet has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Drake is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Drake tries to bench press Jeantet off him but Jeantet keeps the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Drake checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Jeantet throws a series of punches but Drake moves out of range.
Drake fails with the takedown
and Jeantet counters with a straight right hand.

Drake closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jeantet to the mat! Jeantet manages to get full guard.

Jeantet looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Drake has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Drake trying to control but Jeantet is working from the bottom.
Jeantet trying to keep a closed guard but Drake is proving a slippery customer.
Drake trying to control the position from guard on top but Jeantet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jeantet seems keen to control Drake's posture.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Drake tries to stand but Jeantet is controlling from the bottom.

Jeantet is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Drake defends well.

Jeantet has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Drake doesn't defend quickly enough and Jeantet has managed to lock this one up! Can Drake escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Jeantet on a fantastic submission victory.
