PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Evgeniy Nalivayko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nalivayko's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Queen-Princes of the Universe. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Johnny Quick was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Evgeniy Nalivayko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Johnny Quick!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nalivayko changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Quick looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Quick looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Quick is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Nalivayko has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nalivayko is trying to get an arm triangle but Quick is defending well.
Nalivayko working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Nalivayko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Quick wants to get back to his feet.
Nalivayko remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Nalivayko looks up at the clock and then as Quick takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nalivayko smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Nalivayko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Quick has escaped the position, nice work there.
Nalivayko is staying tight to Quick's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Nalivayko tries to advance to mount but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Nalivayko shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Nalivayko lands a big shot there that rocks Quick but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Nalivayko breaks from Quick's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Nalivayko is landing with some decent strikes but Quick is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Nalivayko has hold of Quick's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Quick manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nalivayko cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

BOOM! Nalivayko connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nalivayko lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Nalivayko wants to control the pace but Quick is squirming around nicely.
Nalivayko tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nalivayko lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Quick hang on?
Quick takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nalivayko cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Nalivayko postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Quick looks a forlorn figure.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Quick in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Nalivayko won't let Quick get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Nalivayko is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Quick's half guard.
Quick pushes Nalivayko off looking to stand but Nalivayko dives back in and keeps control.

Nalivayko seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Nalivayko decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Nalivayko is looking to take a break and control but Quick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Quick regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Nalivayko.

Quick wants to get back to his feet but Nalivayko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nalivayko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Quick tries to clinch but Nalivayko moves out of range.

Nalivayko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Evgeniy Nalivayko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nalivayko looking for a submission but Quick manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Nalivayko is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Nalivayko has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nalivayko wants to pass the guard but Quick is defending well.
Quick is staying active underneath Nalivayko, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Quick pushes Nalivayko off looking to stand but Nalivayko dives back in and keeps control.

Nalivayko looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nalivayko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nalivayko, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
