PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Crow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crow has chosen Alive And Kicking as his entrance music. Mark Crow will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hunter Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Crow!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crow looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.
Crow is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

and Crow counters by clinching up.
Crow fails to pull guard.
Crow jumps guard but Johnson stands there with Crow around his waist. Crow gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hunter Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Crow.
Crow tries to pull guard but Johnson won't allow it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Johnson just misses with a elbow thrown towards Crow's brow.
Crow jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Johnson walks away with a smile on his face. Crow gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Johnson stands and throws Crow's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Johnson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Crow has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Johnson but great work by Crow.
Johnson is breathing heavily.

Crow working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Crow tries to advance to mount but Johnson denies him.

Crow is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Johnson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Johnson tries to buck Crow off but Crow is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson wants to get back to full guard but Crow has mounted him!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are battling for position here. Johnson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Johnson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Crow stacks Johnson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Crow!
Johnson regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Crow tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Crow manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.
Johnson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Crow's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Crow's back!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Johnson is trying to stick to Crow's back but Crow is turning into Johnson. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Johnson's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Crow.

Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Johnson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Crow moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Johnson.

Johnson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Johnson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Crow jumps into side control!

Mark Crow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Johnson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnson lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crow is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
