PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darnell Ranski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ranski kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is target=blank>On to the next one. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darnell Ranski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Gracie!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie gets a takedown into half guard.
Gracie is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gracie connects with a nice short shot to Ranski's temple.
Ranski pushes Gracie off looking to stand but Gracie dives back in and keeps control.
Ranski keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Ranski is looking to escape.
Gracie thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Ranski to regain full guard.
Gracie landing some decent shots from guard.
Gracieis looking to pass into half guard but Ranski pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ranski is in guard.
Gracie managing to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ranski trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gracie pulls Ranski in close to prevent any damage.
Gracie wants to sweep here but Ranski controlling him for the moment.
Ranski stops Gracie from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie kicks Ranski off and gets to his feet.
Ranski fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ranski fails to land with a series of punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ranski wants to land a leg kick but Gracie is out of range.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Ranski.
No joy there for Ranski, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ranski misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ranski is breathing heavily.

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gracie thows a big elbow that misses.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Ranski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gracie cracks Ranski with a solid left hand.
Gracie lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Ranski is keeping the position.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Ranski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ranski preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Gracie stands and throws Ranski's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gracie lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie cracks Ranski with a big elbow.

Gracie lands a decent elbow from side control.
Gracie landing strikes.
Ranski is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Ranski is not content to let Gracie control the position.
Gracie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ranski. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie tries to advance to mount but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ranski's head.
Ranski is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gracie missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ranski blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gracie.

Gracie seems to be looking for submissions.
Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but Ranski is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ranski throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.

Gracie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gracie throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Chris Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gracie throws a strike but Ranski rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ranski is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him.
Gracie seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Ranski wants to stand and escape but instead Gracie has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Ranski avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gracie looking to pass the guard.
Gracie scoring with punches to the head and body.
Gracie throwing strikes but missing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie works over Ranski with some ground and pound from guard.

Gracie avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gracie trying to control but Ranski is working from the bottom.
Gracie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ranski's head.
Ranski is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Gracie with a nice head shot there.
Gracie cracks Ranski with a solid left hand.
Ranski working a defensive guard but Gracie passes into half guard.
Gracie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ranski defending well though.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ranski sees it coming and defends easily.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ranski is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ranski is trying to stand back up but Gracie is controlling him
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Ranski goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Ranski tries to close the distance and clinch but Gracie swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Gracie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ranski!
Ranski is looking to get to half guard.
Gracie has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ranski's face.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gracie scoring with strikes but Ranski is staying in there.


Ranski is rocked!
Gracie cracks Ranski with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
