PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Svein Pilgaard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ash Ketchum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ketchum has chosen Pokemon Theme as his entrance music. Ash Ketchum told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Svein Pilgaard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ash Ketchum!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ketchum shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ketchum passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Pilgaard can't do much from the bottom here.
Pilgaard sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Ketchum blocks the strikes from Pilgaard.
Pilgaard tries to get to full guard but Ketchum has control of the leg.
Ketchum uses his free foot to push down on Pilgaard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Pilgaard.

Pilgaard defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ketchum.

Ketchum jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pilgaard is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pilgaard and Ketchum has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Pilgaard is looking for a sweep.
Pilgaard manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pilgaard wants to free his trapped foot but Ketchum is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Ketchum manages to get to full guard.
Ketchum wants to sweep but no luck.
Ketchum keeping full guard, as Pilgaard tries to pass.
Ketchum keeping moving, preventing Pilgaard from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pilgaard wants to pass the guard but Ketchum is keeping the position.
Pilgaard is breathing heavily.
Ketchum bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pilgaard's guard.
Pilgaard has momentary wrist control but Ketchum slips an elbow through the middle.
Ketchum wants to pass the guard but Pilgaard is keeping the position.
Ketchum postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ketchum passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Pilgaard throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.

Ketchum stands up.
A head kick misses from Pilgaard.

Ketchum bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pilgaard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ketchum tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ketchum has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ketchum is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pilgaard is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ketchum stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Pilgaard could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ketchum has Pilgaard up against the cage in a clinch.

Ketchum turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Ketchum lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Ketchum tries for a kimura but Pilgaard is defending well.

Ketchum working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Ketchum wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pilgaard, who protects the arm well.
Pilgaard taking punishment in the form of punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ketchum controlling the position.
Pilgaard sneaks back into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pilgaard tries to get to full guard but Ketchum has control of the leg.
Ketchum is tying to control. Pilgaard wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ketchum trying to mount his opponent but Pilgaard defends it.
Pilgaard makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pilgaard.
Pilgaard thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ketchum decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pilgaard, up you get!

Pilgaard drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pilgaard postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ash Ketchum dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pilgaard with a lazy takedown attempt

and Ketchum counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Pilgaard's guard now.

Pilgaard looking for a guillotine here but Ketchum defends easily.
Ketchum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ketchum is looking to stand up but Pilgaard won't let him.
Pilgaard preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Pilgaard keeping moving, preventing Ketchum from controlling successfully.
Pilgaard wants to sweep here but Ketchum controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ketchum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pilgaard with a poor takedown

and Ketchum counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pilgaard won't be happy with that.

Ketchum is working to tighten is grip on Pilgaard's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Pilgaard has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ketchum is really squeezing tight and eventually Pilgaard passes out! Ketchum breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ash Ketchum!
