PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ted Chad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Roc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chad comes to the cage accompanied by Bleeding Through - Death Anxiety. Roc has chosen ATB - Believe In Me as his entrance music. Jason Roc told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roc gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Chad to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Roc looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Chad lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Roc has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Chad is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Roc.

Chad decides to stand up, so the ref orders Roc to his feet.

Chad jumps guard but Roc stands there with Chad around his waist. Chad gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Roc is trying to force a seperation but Chad has the dominant position.

Chad has clasped his hands together around Roc's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Chad wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Roc, who protects the arm well.
Chad throws a strike aimed at the side of Roc's head but Roc avoids it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chad fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roc avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ted Chad. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Roc lands a right hook to the body.
Roc stalks Chad and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Chad's face. Chad staggers backwards, shaken.

Roc clinches with his opponent.
Chad drops down looking for an ankle pick but Roc pulls his leg out and moves away.
Roc fails to land with a series of punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chad throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A left lands for Roc.
Chad tries to close the distance and clinch but Roc swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Roc misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ted Chad dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Chad shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Roc's guard.
Roc wants to sweep here but Chad controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chad wants to control from the top but Roc keeps moving.

Chad fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Roc, pushing him back against the cage.

Chad is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Roc can't fight it off and eventually Chad manages to take the fight to the floor. Roc looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Chad gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Roc chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Chad can pounce on him.
Chad shoots for a double leg takedown but Roc sprawls well. He's pushed Chad's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Chad throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Roc.
Chad tries to clinch but Roc is having none of it.
Chad stuffs the takedown.

Chad shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Chad can't control as he wanted to and Roc manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Chad thows a huge punch but Roc dodges it nicely.

Chad escapes and gets back to his feet.
Chad doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Roc counters with a three punch combo that has Chad backing up. Chad nods at Roc to acknowledge the strikes.
Roc throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Chad stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Chad counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Roc's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's time! Chad's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Roc lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

It looks like Ted Chad has been cut.

Jason Roc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Chad decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Roc's guard.
Chad passes Roc's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Chad is trying to work for a kimura but Roc is defending well.

Roc is looking to control Chad's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Roc avoid being mounted?
Chad looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Roc with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Chad seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roc does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Chad has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Chad wants to pass the guard but Roc is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chad tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chad has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ted Chad is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chad, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
