PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hammerhead Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Figaro Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Mexican Hat Dance. Figaro Alves will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hammerhead Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Figaro Alves!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sanchez looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Alves lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sanchez backs up against the cage.
Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Alves pinned against the cage. Alves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up with Alves, looking for a takedown. Sanchez pushes Alves against the cage but Alves circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hammerhead Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hammerhead Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Alves gets the takedown into side control.
Alves trying to control the position but Sanchez is working away.
Alves just content to control the position.

Alves decides to stand back up. Alves steps back and let's Sanchez get back to his feet.

and Alves counters with a left and a right that stings Sanchez.

Alves wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Alves manages to pull guard.

Alves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanchez's guard.

Alves thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Sanchez pulls Alves in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Alves gets a clinch.

Alves feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sanchez lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Alves!

Sanchez get's back to his feet.

Alves clinches with his opponent.

Sanchez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Sanchez manages to end up in side control.
Alves sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Alves looks like he's trying to stand up.

Alves is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sanchez pulls his head out easily.
Alves works his way to full guard. Good work.
Alves is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sanchez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sanchez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sanchez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Sanchez wants to pass the guard but Alves is keeping the position.
Alves is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sanchez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Alves is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sanchez is just riding it out for now. Alves eventually gives up the hold.
Alves wants to take a breather but Sanchez is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves seems to be looking for submissions.
Alves tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sanchez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Figaro Alves dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Alves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sanchez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Alves decides to stand back up. Alves steps back and let's Sanchez get back to his feet.

Alves has hold of Sanchez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sanchez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Sanchez reaches up to try and control the position but Alves seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Sanchez rolls and tries to escape and now Alves has his back!
Alves has the hooks in. Sanchez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Alves is looking for the choke from the back position but Sanchez is controlling his hands well.

Alves keeps control of the position as Sanchez tries to break free.

Sanchez is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Alves is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Sanchez won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Alves off his unconscious opponent!
