PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DJ Wegesin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leopold Raskalnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wegesin comes to the cage accompanied by The four tops - It's the same old song. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, DJ Wegesin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leopold Raskalnikov!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raskalnikov lands a with a good body shot.
Raskalnikov wants to clinch up but Wegesin keeps it at a distance.
Raskalnikov throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Raskalnikov misses with a leg kick.
Raskalnikov with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Raskalnikov tries to land a front kick but Wegesin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Raskalnikov goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Wegesin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wegesin misses the jab.
A slow jab from Wegesin misses its intended target.
Raskalnikov throws a head kick that misses.
Raskalnikov moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Raskalnikov lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wegesin's sensitive parts.
Raskalnikov swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Raskalnikov misses the jab.
Raskalnikov is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Raskalnikov connects with a solid leg kick.
Raskalnikov tries to land a front kick but Wegesin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
A big right from Wegesin misses.

Wegesin cracks Raskalnikov with a right hand to the side of the head.
Raskalnikov throws a leg kick but Wegesin sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Raskalnikov throws the kick towards the body but Wegesin avoids it.
Raskalnikov throws a head kick that half lands.
Wegesin missing with a left hand there. Raskalnikov was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Wegesin misses the shot to the body.
Leopold Raskalnikov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wegesin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Raskalnikov defends it nicely.
Wegesin throws a body punch but Raskalnikov moves out of range.

Raskalnikov bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Raskalnikov cracks the inside of Wegesin's front leg.
Raskalnikov does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Wegesin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wegesin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Wegesin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Raskalnikov defending well though.
Wegesin slows the pace down in half guard.
Wegesin working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Raskalnikov's thigh. Raskalnikov counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Wegesin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Raskalnikov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Raskalnikov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Raskalnikov has his foot on Wegesin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wegesin works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Raskalnikov plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Raskalnikov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wegesin swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Raskalnikov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Raskalnikov thumps Wegesin with a low kick.

Wegesin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Wegesin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Wegesin thows a huge punch but Raskalnikov dodges it nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Leopold Raskalnikov dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

No joy there for Wegesin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Leopold Raskalnikov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Raskalnikov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wegesin was well out of range. Poor timing from Raskalnikov.
Raskalnikov slips a jab and a cross from Wegesin.
Some bone on bone action there as Wegesin checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Raskalnikov tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Raskalnikov is not content to let Wegesin control the position.

Wegesin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Wegesin wants to pass the guard but Raskalnikov is defending well.

Raskalnikov is refusing to be controlled, as Wegesin sits in half guard.

Wegesin is trying to work for a kimura but Raskalnikov is defending well.
Wegesin is trying to control the action in half guard but Raskalnikov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wegesin scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Wegesin thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Raskalnikov to regain full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Wegesin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Raskalnikov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Wegesin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wegesin works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Wegesin tries to pass to full mount but Raskalnikov defends it.
Wegesin passes to side control.
Wegesin tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

DJ Wegesin dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Raskalnikov on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Raskalnikov doesn't manage to clinch there - Wegesin circles away.
Wegesin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Raskalnikov throws a half hearted mid kick.

Wegesin cracks Raskalnikov with an uppercut from hell and Raskalnikov crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Wegesin's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!

Wegesin passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Raskalnikov is still in real trouble! Can Wegesin finish him?

Wegesin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wegesin connects with a nice short shot to Raskalnikov's temple.

Raskalnikov is desperately trying to improve his position but Wegesin has a good base and remains in mount.

Raskalnikov is in a horrible position here. Wegesin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
DJ Wegesin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wegesin looking for a guillotine from mount but Raskalnikov is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
DJ Wegesin showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Wegesin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
