PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oscar Palacios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palacios comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Enter Sandman - Metallica kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar Palacios!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Head changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Palacios tries to avoid it but Head manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Palacios to the ground. Palacios escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Head tries a head kick but it misses.

Head gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Palacios fails to land with a series of punches.
Head goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Head lands with a nice combination. Palacios backs away looking to recover.

Head closes the distance and clinches.

Head manages to break the clinch.

Palacios gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Head to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Palacios has a closed guard, preventing Head from standing up.
Palacios working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Head.
Head with a flurry of punches that miss.
Palacios avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Palacios holds on and takes a little breather.

Palacios is trying to control the position but Head postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Head thows a big elbow that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Head accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Palacios throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Palacios throws a series of punches but Head avoids them all with ease.
Palacios swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Head manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Palacios prevents Head from getting back to his feet.

Palacios postures up in Head's guard and throws a big left but Head blocks it.
Palacios has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Palacios looks to land a combination but Head avoids it well.

Head shoots in for a takedown but Palacios shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

This has been an exciting period of action!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's time! Head's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Head jumps guard but Palacios stands there with Head around his waist. Head gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Head drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Palacios gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Head is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Palacios gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Head has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Palacios avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Head using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Palacios has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Palacios has had enough of the clinch but Head keeps him there for the moment.

Palacios postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Palacios drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Palacios seems to have locked his on tight now - Head screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Palacios, as he picks up the win!
