PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Chesterman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Irving (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Chesterman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonathan Irving!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irving misses with a body kick.
Irving will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Irving lands a left and a right that send Chesterman crashing to the mat, dazed. Irving thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Chesterman is rocked!


It looks like Mike Chesterman has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Irving tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chesterman swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Oh Chesterman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Chesterman lands a head kick!
Chesterman seems to have got his legs back now.
Irving tries to clinch up.
A head kick misses from Chesterman.
Chesterman tries to close the distance and clinch but Irving swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Chesterman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Chesterman can't break the clinch.
Irving is trying to stall.
Irving drops down looking for an ankle pick but Chesterman pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice sprawl there from Irving as Chesterman shoots in.
Chesterman throws a head kick but Irving moves out of range.

Chesterman has managed to clinch.
Chesterman wants to break free but Irving has control.
Irving lands on the inside with an uppercut.


Mike Chesterman's cut is getting worse.
Irving jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chesterman walks away with a smile on his face. Irving gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Mike Chesterman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Irving.
Chesterman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Irving as he jumps to the side.
Chesterman goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

and Chesterman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Irving is fighting off a takedown attempt but Chesterman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Irving to the mat. Irving regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Irving has his foot on Chesterman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chesterman works his way back into a safe position though.
Irving not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Irving has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chesterman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Chesterman trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Chesterman tries to stand but Irving is controlling from the bottom.
Irving keeping moving, preventing Chesterman from controlling successfully.

Chesterman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Chesterman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Irving walks forward, straight into a front kick from Chesterman.
Chesterman circles away from the clinch attempt

and Chesterman moves into the clinch.
Chesterman has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Irving is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Irving keeps control of Chesterman as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Chesterman pushes Irving back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
A nice right hand lands inside from Irving.
Irving is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Irving avoiding damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chesterman is trying to force a seperation but Irving has the dominant position.

Chesterman gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Irving is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Chesterman landing some decent shots from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Irving not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chesterman content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Chesterman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Irving, up you get!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Chesterman drives through and clinches with Irving against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jonathan Irving will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chesterman goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Irving wants to clinch

so Chesterman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Chesterman wants to get up but he can't break Irving's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Chesterman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Chesterman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Chesterman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Irving is proving hard to escape from.

Chesterman stands and steps away. Irving gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Irving closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Chesterman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Chesterman.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chesterman can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Irving controls the pace.
Irving advances position into side control!
Irving wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chesterman keeps working.
Chesterman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chesterman desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Irving trying to control from half guard but Chesterman is working away.
Chesterman is trying to stand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chesterman gets full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Irving pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chesterman is keeping the position for now.
Irving wants to stand but Chesterman is controlling his posture from full guard.
Chesterman wants to sweep here but Irving controlling him for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Irving won't allow Chesterman to get back to his feet.
Irving wants to get up but he can't break Chesterman's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Irving misses with a takedown
and Chesterman counters with a head kick.

Chesterman clinches.

Chesterman's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Irving shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Chesterman counters with a big head kick but Irving shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Chesterman dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Mike Chesterman's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Chesterman closes the distance and clinches.

Chesterman breaks the clinch.
Mike Chesterman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Irving tries to land a body kick
enabling Chesterman to counter with a crisp jab.
Irving blocks a head kick by Chesterman.
Irving walks forward, straight into a front kick from Chesterman.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Chesterman.
Irving displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Chesterman.
Irving shoots and misses

and Chesterman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Irving wants to stand up but Chesterman is controlling him.

Chesterman stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Chesterman lands a high kick!

A head kick from Chesterman lands but Irving takes it in his stride.
Nice sprawl there from Irving as Chesterman shoots in.
Irving tries to clinch
and Chesterman counters with a solid body kick.

Chesterman instigates a clinch.

Chesterman manages to break the clinch.
Chesterman throws a head kick that half lands.
Irving with a poor takedown
and Chesterman counters with a head kick. That will keep Irving thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Chesterman moves into the clinch successfully.
Chesterman makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Chesterman is trying to break free.
Irving is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Chesterman is looking to break free of the clinch but Irving has double underhooks.

Chesterman is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Irving can't fight it off and eventually Chesterman manages to take the fight to the floor. Irving looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Chesterman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Irving works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Chesterman throws a strike but Irving rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Irving wants to control from the top but Chesterman keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chesterman wants to sweep here but Irving controlling him for the moment.
Irving trying to control but Chesterman is working from the bottom.
Chesterman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Irving looking to sit in guard and control but Chesterman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Chesterman wants to control from the top but Irving keeps moving.

Chesterman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Irving avoids the head kick by Chesterman.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Chesterman showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Chesterman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
