PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jake McGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Remington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuire comes into the arena with Jump Around blaring out of the sound system. Remington is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kymani Marley - Warriors. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Remington!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Eddie Farnsworth and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Remington shoots in but McGuire avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Remington is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McGuire throws a lazy right hand but Remington sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McGuire stuns Remington with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McGuire cracks Remington with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
McGuire throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Remington closes the distance and clinches up with McGuire, looking for a takedown. Remington pushes McGuire against the cage but McGuire circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
McGuire lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McGuire rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Remington moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Remington shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McGuire as he avoids it easily.
Jake McGuire has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Remington.
Remington lands a high kick!
McGuire throws a leg kick but Remington moved away.
Remington moves out of range of the strikes.
McGuire misses with a few strikes there.

Remington takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Remington misses with a takedown attempt - McGuire sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Remington walks into a left hand.
Remington takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Remington shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McGuire sprawls well. McGuire wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Remington gets slowly back to his feet.

Jake McGuire seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Remington shoots in for a takedown but McGuire shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Remington closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Remington lands in his opponent's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Remington's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Remington is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McGuire is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McGuire has escaped and now he's on top!

Remington is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

McGuire drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McGuire jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
McGuire lands a couple of decent looking shots.
McGuire won't allow Remington to sweep him here.
McGuire working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

McGuire is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Remington working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McGuire doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McGuire manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Remington is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Remington looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Remington got a little sloppy there for a moment and McGuire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Remington has managed to get both his arms back between McGuire's legs - danger averted.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jake McGuire will probably get the nod.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Remington connects with a nice short shot to McGuire's temple.
McGuire is looking for a sweep. Remington is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jake McGuire is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Remington looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
McGuire wants to control but Remington is keeping busy.

I would just about give that final round to Mike Remington.
I think McGuire has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
