PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Foster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angelo Anima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anima has chosen Master of Puppets as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Angelo Anima was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andy Foster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Angelo Anima!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anima shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Foster pinned against the cage. Foster gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Foster stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Foster wants it to stay on the feet.

Anima gets the takedown into side control.
Foster can't do much from the bottom here.

Foster bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Anima looks gassed!
Foster tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Anima counters with a stiff right hand.
Foster misses with a body shot
and Anima connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Foster counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Andy Foster has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Angelo Anima.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Foster is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Anima defends well.
Foster thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Anima slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Anima tries for a kimura but Foster is defending well.
Foster is looking to reverse the position.

Anima looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Foster is looking for a sweep.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Foster gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Anima decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Foster's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Anima wants to control from the top but Foster keeps moving.

Foster has his foot on Anima's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Anima works his way back into a safe position though.

Foster escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Anima gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Foster has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Anima can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Anima must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Anima stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Foster.
Foster shoots in but Anima avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Anima misses with a double jab.

Anima closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Anima lands in his opponent's guard.
Anima with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Animais looking to pass into half guard but Foster pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Foster is in guard.

Foster is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Anima has managed to free his arm - good work.
Anima is looking to control Foster's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Anima avoid being mounted?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Foster wants to work for an arm triangle but Anima is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Angelo Anima will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Anima lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Foster backs up against the cage.
Foster with a hook.


It looks like Angelo Anima has been cut.
Foster shoots and misses
and Anima makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A punch combination from Anima misses.
Foster slips a jab and a cross from Anima.
Foster throws a body punch but Anima moves out of range.
Anima goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Foster is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Foster is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Anima is just riding it out for now. Foster eventually gives up the hold.

Foster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anima doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anima manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Anima drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Anima jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Angelo Anima showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Foster looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Anima is refusing to be controlled, as Foster sits in half guard.

Anima is defending against the submission attempts here by Foster.
Foster tries to pass the half guard into mount. Anima knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Anima makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Anima.

Anima is looking to stand up but Foster isn't so interested in that idea.
Foster stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Anima swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Foster drops back, looking for a kneebar! Anima looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Anima looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Anima!

Anima has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Anima shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Foster manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Foster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anima doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anima manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
